EXAM Q2

Analyse how far the extract depicts the polices point of view rather than the criminals point of view.[10]

Before we even see the action the voice over tells us that the policemen need courage and conviction to do their job as they can be treated harshly. The voice over also states that they had to have much training to become a policeman, this means it is easier for us to trust them. Whereas the criminals have done nothing and commit crime in the community.

They police man help the criminals as well as stopping them for example when the man in the house was slitting his wrists and the bosses son helped him out of his house. The scenes make us admire the policeman as he tries to diffuse the situation without hurting anyone, He does this by not using physical force until he is pushed by one of the men on the beach. He is then punched in the face by a stag man which makes us have sympathy for him as punching a policeman is a criminal offence. We feel this because it is an unlikely thing to happen as policemen are good in the watchers eyes.

Many people make it hard for the policemen to help them if  they are in a low part in their life as we see outside an urban house in the city, when Nathan has a knife but they talk calmly to him to make Nathan feel better. In scene three we experience seeing a normal Indian kid getting stabbed by a gang in a shop, this shows us what the policeman have to deal with in their everyday situation.

This extract depicts the policeman's view in order to see how much work and time it takes to do what they are doing and we should look up to their work and abilities.

  1. 6 (= B)
You start convincingly with your comment on the effect of the Chief Super's voice-over to establish trust in the police. Your third sentence, however, is weak as it is generalized and unsupported.
In paragraph 2, separate the 2 incidents / situations (the addict and the beach scene). Here, you show intelligence in your analysis of the police's role in attempting to diffuse the situation. Altogether, you make a convincing case for the police being shown as deserving of our respect.
