Exam Q5

Society contexts influence television programs most of the time in 2017.  The type of language defined what the television show is going to show and tell to the audiences. In the Avengers the social context represents the old way of language and how men and women spoke to each other. For example when the Bartender says " could not find quote " This shows us that people gave different names for men and women that we would do in the present age.

This old language is used throughout the episodes as it was a normal language to use in 1961. This is one of the ways that make it to be an older TV show.

The scene of the Avengers TV shows us scenes from different periods before that age for example the old church or the destroyed bunkers from WW 2. This shows us what time period it was set because of they debris and bunkers have not been cleared away like they would have done a longer period after the war. Also the room they were staying in gives us hints of the age as the beds and furniture are antiques to us, there is also a butcher, a baker, and a candlestick maker which they would barely or not be around today.

  1. Mark 1 out of 10 Why have you not written in the "quotation"? Laziness?
    1. You should draw attention to the national social anxieties caused by the recent war 'the enemy within' and the sinister conspiracies.
    2. You should notice that Emma Peel is represented as an intelligent career woman on equal terms with Steed.
    3. You could have explained other issues: ethnic inequalities; assumption of heterosexuality; 60's generation gap between Peel and Steed; contested social values between 'swinging London and duty to Queen and country
