Q4 MOJO

On the front of the magazine, one of the main things that catches your attention is the main splash. It’s the large image in the middle of the page. Ray Davies' head covers the masthead of the magazine as well. The masthead is the big text at the top of the page which has the logo of the magazine on it. As MOJO is a popular music magazine company, they have put Ray Davies head over it as people will be familiar with MOJO. This also creates an effect as it could also show that he stands out more as he is the main focus point.

The colours on the front of the magazine work quite well as the black background matches with the black and white picture of Ray Davies giving it a monochrome style. The main colours we can see on the page are black and white with reminiscent yellow and red. This makes the yellow and red stand out more and it shows that they're giving important information.

Thirdly, the cover lines on the side give us lots of information as well. The cover lines go on the edges of magazines so we know what the content is of the issue instead of just the main splash because not everyone would be interested in just Ray Davies but also other information about music as well. Also, the title name of “Ray Davies” blends in with the cover line as that it's in the same place as the other ones.

The music magazine question will either be on representation (and so you analyse how Ray Davies comes across) or a comparative question on media language (layout, colour, use of coverlines and so on) This is a bit of a muddle between the two.
You will never need to comment on generic magazine conventions, only on MUSIC magazine conventions
