Question 2 Cuffs

Analyze how far the extract depicts the police's point of view rather than the criminals' point of view. In your answer you should:
  • Analyze aspects of the extract using examples to support your analysis.
  • Judge how far these aspects depict the polices point of view.
The extract depicts the polices view quite largely as we are supposed to take the polices view and what they are dealing with in the episodes. We can see this in the part of the police chase. The watchers barely see the criminal van in the chase but there are regular images of policemen in car chasing them. This can change the watchers point of view because the police have a large amount of screen time as the story is based through their eyes. This makes the readers feel for the police if something happens and tend to take their side within the episodes.

Close ups of the police officers can also help readers take the place of the polices point of view. This is because when there is a close up on them, we see the emotions portrayed on their faces and how they are feeling in that moment. This can trigger the watchers emotions which most likely relate to what the character is feeling.

In conclusion these aspects depict the polices point of view big enough to get sympathy from the audience and to constantly be on there side in the situations they face. This really pulls the audience in as they have people to relate to and confide in, connecting to Blumer and Katz's concept.

  1. Mark 5 out of 10
    1. Good understanding shown in your first paragraph, but it takes until the third sentence for you to say anything precise.
    2. To get more marks, be more full and detailed. For example, you need to illustrate SPECIFIC examples: you write "we see the emotions portrayed on their faces and how they are feeling in that moment" but you don't say WHAT emotions and WHEN
