GENRE CODES

The Title of the movie is the largest piece of text on the poster because It is the name of the film and in a type of way represents it. The font of the title can matter because it can tell you what time era it was set in, It can also represent what genre it falls under for example if the genre was horror the text would be wobbly and tall, or if it was an old fashioned movie then the text would be broad or in italics. The way the Lego text is set out gives us the true for of Lego and is built in 3D to stand out even more than anything else.

The tagline on movies give the reader an idea of what its about and what they are going to be watching. Taglines will never be over a short length as they have to be snappy and fixate in peoples minds. Usually taglines also have oxymoron's in them for example in the Lego movie it says everybody and nobody to catch peoples attention and make them think.

The main image on the cover grabs the readers attention as the makers of the poster try to make it stand out as much as possible. They also include some large icons and characters that many people know and love into the picture. The front picture then grabs peoples attention as they want to watch these characters so people can see and relate to individual characters. The familiarity of these characters really gives an appeal to all ages watching the movie as kids can see heroes like superman and batman and parents can see people like green lantern and the spaceman.

These codes and conventions are the main needs for a movie poster as well as a bock which has all the credits in it. This MUST be on the poster because everyone in it needs to be credited. Since there are a lot of people that need to be in the block they use a special font that is tall and thin. The block usually is at the bottom of the page bellow all the other information.

 1. You understand how the tagline functions but do not explain this ACTUAL example. You should stress how such an 'ordinary character' as Emmet can succeed and you should relate that to audience appeal, identifying with Emmet, as ordinary would-be heroes themselves.
2. You should note the vibrancy of the images and the bold bright colours. Comment on the explosions, the recognizable Lego branding.

  1. Q. 9: mark 2 out of 10 FAR TOO GENERAL AND ONLY ONE POSTER ANALYSED.
    1. You make some relevant but general points about genre codes, such as the movie title, but fail to draw attention to its 3D quality and 'Lego' build. Stick to the Lego posters rather than make generalised comments.

    4. You should describe the familiarity of Superheroes as an appeal.
    5. Write separate paragraph for the ensemble poster and the other 4, which you should refer to in detail, not just the Emmet poster.
