NEWS EXAM QUESTION

The observer front page shows many different types of media language. People that read the observer as costumers are completely neutral and non bias to what they are reading. This is shown because the writers show both sides of the argument equally to make sure they are not being unfair. In the Observer the entertainment articles really try and capture the sense of humor and fun to enlighten their readers with some shallow giggles. They do this by making the look of it very open and have puns in the headlines to capture peoples attention. Also included in the magazine for fun options are things like puzzles crosswords and mind games to keep the readers entertained. In general there magazine is shown as a fun, interesting item to read.

The magazine also has many large, well known names in-cooperated into it. This is because they want to catch peoples attention as many followers of these big people want to know whats going on in their life. This creates attention towards their magazines as people see that their idol is on the magazine and they want to know whats happened with them. This is an example with Gigi Hadid, her followers would pick up the magazine as they might want to see what she is doing. This would mean the magazine would end up having a larger target market and in general improving the sales amounts and profit.

  1. Q.8 Mark 0 out of 5
Your opening paragraph does not seem to relate to the question. I can see no evidence, for example, of 'shallow giggles' or 'sense of humour' but if there were, you would need to draw specific attention to the language. Are you actually analysing the correct extracts, the online news? I don't understand why you refer to 'the magazine' repeatedly. The Observer is a newspaper. The prep is about its online news page.
You did not really understand that you needed to analyse specific uses of language from the online extract given. For instance, can you pick out examples of hyperbolic, emotive or sympathetic language? Use of metaphor? Concerns with gender politics or social diversity? How is photography used?
