David Bowie Magazine

This magazine made by Mojo Has the name at the very top of the magazine in the largest most capitalistic letters than its comparisons. The title is hidden by the top of David Bowie's head, this is because the magazine brand believe that people recognize there logo much so that they can place half of it behind David Bowie. In the middle of the magazine is placed the surname of David as that is what people know him best by. It is also to show what the magazines main theme is about as we see in the sub header "The Berlin years, untold and unseen". This introduces us to what the writing about David is. The large picture of David in the center blends in with the background but as it is the only main picture on the front it forces us to look at it.

All around the edges of the Magazine front cover there are large and small square boxes that either hold images or information. In the top left hand corner there is a square that says "free CD". As a reader/ costumer we always like a free deal and this sign clearly states there is one in this magazine by contrasting the colours of the rest of the magazine. As well as all these boxes there are also circles and shapes that introduce us to new information about the magazine or any deals within it. For example on the right side of the magazine there is another contrast in colours stating this issue has had good reviews showing that many people liked it.

There is little space left on the magazine as most of it is taken up by the picture and the writing surrounding it. The proportion is mapped out perfectly as we can see everything when looking directly at it. The Large square at the bottom left corner does stand out a little bit but is probably edited that way so it is more eye catching for the costumer. Most of the writing is in capitals and stands out from the background. The magazine cover is cropped perfectly so the edges do not bleed over the sides. The blue image that takes up over a quarter of the page represents David Bowie's move to Germany where he was unknown by everyone. This is why it is represented as a new decade in German. It also has an image that makes us think we are going to learn about Bowie's off-road trip to peace.

All around the edges are  four decks and three decks that have been neatly placed in whit and black. These decks also give us information about the information in the magazine and give us an idea about what we will be reading. Most on the decks also contain funny or strong, leading quotes that make us what to read more about it.

  1. Mark 3 out of 5
    1. You understand that the title is a very familiar brand to its audience therefore they can afford to obscure it partly
    2. Fair points on Bowie's prominence and the significance of 'significance of Neu Decade' but could you comment on Bowies's outfit; stance; value to the readership
    3. Comment on content of cover lines
    4. You draw attention to the puffs / promo plugs
    5. To improve: be analytical rather than merely descriptive throughout
